Intalling gpu drivers for ubuntu install#
Is it because I am using newer kernels? Previously I could be able to see AMD propertiary drivers, and install it if I wanted, which I once did for testing, and then returned to Intel graphics. What should I do?Īnother issue is that I no longer see propertiary drivers in "additional drivers" section of the "software and updates" utility. So, I want to use graphics drivers provided by Intel, but unfortuanately there is no prebuilt packages for 16.04 in 01.org repositories. But, now I have several issues with video acceleration, including the inability to scale the video. Video acceleration worked just fine in VLC in 14.04. I was prviously on Ubuntu 14.04, using Intel graphics driver in Ubuntu 16.04, installed from here: I think that everything on my laptop is using the NVIDIA card, wich is causing it to overheat when I don't have any applications open. If nothing happens because the tool isn't working, you can manually install the drivers via the terminal (See below for instructions). But, I can't see the Intel HD Graphics GPU in update manager. If you do not see any available drivers for your graphics card, then your graphics card is most likely quite old and you should stick with what you have installed, if you do see suitable drivers for your GPU, select the driver you want and click on 'Apply Changes' and wait for the installer to do its thing.
I have a dual Intel 6th gen./AMD Radeon HD graphics, and I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I have 2 GPUs: Intel HD Graphics 620 and NVIDIA GeForce 930MX Ubuntu has automatically installed the proprietary driver for the NVIDIA GPU.
